The Midlife GlowGetter
GlowGetter Daily - Say Yes In Midlife
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Saying “no” can feel like self-care, but sometimes it’s just fear wearing a cozy sweater. We talk about a midlife pattern that quietly narrows your world: declining invitations before you even give them a real chance. If you’ve caught yourself thinking “I’m too tired,” “it’s too far,” or “I won’t know anyone,” you’re not alone. We’ve been there too, and we’re naming it with love so you can choose something different.
We dig into why midlife friendships don’t form the way they did in our 20s. Back then, proximity did a lot of the work. Now, making new friends in midlife takes intentionality and a willingness to feel mildly uncomfortable for a moment, like walking into a room where you might not know a soul and staying anyway. We also lean on what research keeps reinforcing: the friendships that end up mattering most often begin in the most unlikely places, like the event you almost skipped or the class you joined on a whim.
You’ll leave with a simple, practical challenge to make saying yes easier: go, stay for at least an hour, and stay open. We also share three powerful affirmations to support your confidence, your needs, and your rest as you navigate reinvention and community. If you’re craving deeper social connection, a bigger life, and friends who fit who you are now, press play, then subscribe, share with a friend who needs a nudge, and leave a review so more women can find us.

Hello everyone, welcome back to the Midlife Glow Gatter Podcast. And this is the Glow Gatter Daily, a quick bite-sized pep talk from me to you. So let's get started. So I want to gently call out a habit that a lot of us develop in midlife. And I say this with total love because I have lived this too. We stop saying yes to new things. We get comfortable with our existing circle, our existing routines, our existing definitions of who we are and who we spend our time with. And we start declining invitations not because we truly don't want to go, but because we talked ourselves out of it before we even got there. Too tired, too far, I won't know anyone. It's not really my kind of thing. I'll feel awkward. I'd rather just stay home. Sound familiar? Here's what I know about new friendship in midlife. It does not happen the way it did when we were in our 20s, when proximity and shared circumstances threw people together constantly.
Welcome And Quick Pep Talk
SPEAKER_00Now it requires intentionality. It requires showing up for two things we weren't sure about. It requires the small, mildly uncomfortable
The Midlife Habit Of Saying No
SPEAKER_00act of walking into a room where we might not know a soul and staying anyway. And here is what research keeps telling us over and over. The friendships that end up mattering most are often the ones that started at the most unlikely places. The women who become your people, the ones you cannot imagine your life without. They are at events you almost didn't go to, classes you signed up for on a whim, dinners where you knew no one, walks you joined solo and left with someone's number in your phone. You will not click with everyone. You are not supposed to, but you will never find your people
Why Friendship Now Takes Intention
SPEAKER_00from your couch. You have to show up. You have to give new connections the chance to become something. And in midlife, the women you meet now who are in the same season of life asking the same questions, navigating the same reinvention can become some of the most profound friendships of your life. The next invitation that comes your way, a class, an event, a gathering, anything that involves other humans, say yes. Even if you're nervous, even if you're tired, even if you almost talk yourself out of it. Go. Stay for at least an hour. Be open. You genuinely know who is waiting on the other side of that yes. Now I am sharing three affirmations on repeat that can inspire you on your midlife journey. I do not need to shrink my ambitions to make others comfortable. I do not need to shrink my ambitions to make others comfortable. I communicate my needs clearly because I trust that I am worth being heard. I spend my leisure time on things that truly restore me. I spend my leisure time on things that truly restore me. Okay, ladies, have an amazing day.
