Ready to break through your weight loss plateau? You're not alone. Hovering between the same 1-2 pounds can be incredibly frustrating, but this episode brings you two powerful strategies I'm personally using right now to push past that stubborn barrier.

First, discover the transformative power of infrared saunas - not just for weight loss, but for detoxification and that coveted midlife skin glow. Unlike traditional saunas, infrared heat penetrates deeper, raising your core temperature and creating a passive calorie burn while you simply sit and relax. I'll share exactly how I'm incorporating this into my routine and why it might be the missing piece in your weight loss puzzle.

Then we dive into strength training - the secret weapon for women in midlife that too many of us overlook. Forget the myths about "bulking up" - I'll explain why building lean muscle is actually your metabolic best friend, how it reshapes your body in ways cardio alone never can, and why it's crucial for bone health during perimenopause and beyond. As someone who strength trains twice weekly (soon to be three times!), I've seen the transformation firsthand.

The episode also delivers my complete nine-step financial glow-up system - the exact process that helped me pay off $32,000 in debt in just 23 months as a single parent. From creating a values-based budget to automating your financial success, this roadmap provides the structure many women need to finally take control of their money midlife.

Fashion lovers will appreciate our deep dive into Fall 2025 trends - featuring everything from tailored comfort to everyday luxury in rich, warm tones. Learn how to elevate your wardrobe with strategic pieces that make you feel both polished and comfortable.

Speaker 1:

Hello everyone, welcome back to the Midlife Glow Report. I'm Jax, your host, and I'm here to help you glow up your body, your style, your finances and your entire midlife journey. In today's episode, I've got two weight loss tips I'm personally using right now to push through a plateau. Plus, we'll revisit the full nine-step financial glow-up series. I'll share the upcoming fall 2025 top style trends for women and the top 20 traits of confident women over 40. This episode is packed with tips, encouragement and real strategies you can start using today. So let's dive in. All right, let's start our first segment with a weight loss tip of the week. I want to talk about something I personally just started this week infrared saunas.

Speaker 1:

Now we all know that traditional saunas make you sweat, but infrared saunas work a little differently. Instead of just heating the air around you, infrared heat penetrates deeper in your body, gently raising your core temperature. This does a couple of really exciting things for women like us on a glow-up journey. First, it can boost your metabolism. When your core temp rises, your body has to work harder to cool itself down. That means you're burning more calories just sitting there, which can support your overall weight loss goals. Think of it like a passive workout, your heart rate increases, your circulation improves and you're sweating out excess water retention. Second, infrared saunas are amazing for detoxification. We're constantly exposed to toxins, whether it's from processed foods, environmental pollution or even stress hormones building up in our system. Sweating it out in a sauna helps your body release some of that burden, leaving you feeling lighter and clearer. And here's the bonus I promised skin health, because infrared heat boosts blood flow and stimulates collagen. It can help improve skin tone, elasticity and that healthy midlife glow we're all after. Many women notice softer, clearer skin after making saunas a regular part of their routine.

Speaker 1:

Now let me share why I'm so excited about this. Over the past 30 days, I've been a bit on a plateau in my weight loss journey, hovering just one or two pounds up or down. If you've been there, you know how frustrating it can be. So I decided to add infrared saunas into my weekly routine. I'm hoping this will be the thing that helps me break through that plateau and start seeing a steady decline again. Of course, this isn't a magic bullet. You still need your nutrition, movement and consistency, but adding two or three 20 to 30-minute infrared sessions a week can be a powerful addition to your weight loss and glow-up plan. So if you've been curious, maybe give it a try. So, if you've been curious, maybe give it a try. It's self-care, recovery and weight loss support all in one beautiful practice. Now let's move into our second weight loss tip of the week, one that's already a big part of my own routine strength training.

Speaker 1:

Strength training is simply working your muscles against resistance, whether that's using dumbbells, resistance bands, machines at the gym or even just your own body weight with movements like squats, push-ups or lunges. A lot of women shy away from it, especially in midlife, because they worry about getting bulky. But here's the truth Strength training is one of the most powerful things you can do for weight loss, longevity and overall glow up. Here's why. First, when you build lean muscle, you're also boosting your metabolism. Muscle tissue burns more calories at rest than fat does, so the more muscles you have, the more energy your body is using all day, even when you're not working out. That means strength training helps you break through plateaus and keeps your metabolism humming as we age. Second, it's amazing for bone health and hormones. In perimenopause and menopause, women are more prone to bone density loss and muscle decline. Lifting weights or using resistance helps protect your bones, keeps you strong and supports hormonal balance. This translates to more energy, better posture and less chance of injuries down the line, and the bonus benefit confidence and body shape. Strength training reshapes your body in a way cardio alone can't. It tones, firms and gives you that empowered feeling of being strong in your own skin. There's nothing like hitting a new weight on a squat or push-up and realizing wow, I'm so much stronger than I thought. Now, how often should you do it? The sweet spot for most women is two to three sessions per week working all the major muscle groups. That's exactly what I'm doing right now. I strength train twice a week and I'm planning to add a third session into my week because I've seen such amazing results from it. So if you haven't started yet, don't be intimidated. Begin with body weight moves or grab a set of light dumbbells and build up gradually. Over time. Strength training can completely transform not just your weight loss results but how you feel and show up in midlife.

Speaker 1:

Okay, ladies, now we're covering your nine-step financial glow-up series. I'm going to walk you step-by-step through the foundations of financial freedom. I started this series in early episodes and there was a break, so to make sure nothing is missed. I'm starting over and I'm going to cover all steps in this one episode. If you've ever felt behind with money, confused or just unsure of where to start, this series is for you. Think of it as building your financial glow-up checklist. I used this exact process and paid off $32,000 in debt in 23 months as a single parent with a son away at college a single parent with a son away at college.

Speaker 1:

Step one starts with the absolute foundation knowing your monthly income and expenses. You cannot glow up financially if you don't know what's coming in and what's going out. Grab a notebook or open your notes app and write down your total monthly income. Then list every recurring expense your mortgage or rent, utilities, groceries, subscriptions, gas, eating out. Here's the goal clarity. When you see the full picture, you gain control. No more guessing, no more living in the dark. Financial freedom begins with awareness.

Speaker 1:

Now step two create a value-based budget. So now you got clear on your income, we're building your first values-based budget. A values-based budget isn't about restriction. It's about alignment. This is where your money starts reflecting the woman you are becoming. Instead of asking what do I have to cut, ask what do I want my money to create in my life. Here's how you do it. Look at your list of expenses. Circle the ones that support your values Maybe health, family freedom, travel, security, star the ones that drain you or don't match what you want to be. This goal isn't about perfection. It's progress. When you spend in alignment with your values, your money works harder for you, for your happiness. Your glow-up step today rewrite your budget so that it reflects the future you're building, not just the bills you're paying.

Speaker 1:

Step three list all debts and plan a payoff strategy. In step three we face something many of us avoid debt. It's time to take your power back. First, make a list of your debt. You have Credit cards, car loans, student loans, medical bills. Write down the balance, interest rate and minimum payment. See it all in one place is powerful because once it's on paper, it stops controlling you. Now pick your strategy. The snowball method Pay off your smallest debt first for quick wins. The avalanche method Attack the highest interest rate to save more money long term. Neither is wrong. The best strategy is the one you'll actually stick with. Debt doesn't define you. It's simply a number that can shrink every month with a plan. Your glow up step. Choose your method and commit to one extra payment this month.

Speaker 1:

Step four decrease spending and increase income. So step three you created a debt payoff plan. To move this process along and fully execute paying off your entire debt, you should concentrate on doing two different activities Cutting expenses across the board and increasing your income. Consider your values-based budget and see where you can cut expenses Maybe changing grocery stores or changing to cheaper skincare, changing phone plan or home internet service. Then concentrate on increasing income. Ask for a raise, switch employment or get a second job. That's what I did. I got a second remote job and increased my income at $1,200 per month, which all went towards my debt.

Speaker 1:

Step five check your credit score and history. Step five of your financial glow up is all about your credit score, your financial reputation. It impacts whether you can buy a home, refinance or even land certain jobs. Here's how to glow up your credit Get your free credit report at annualcreditreportcom. Check for errors, because mistakes happen and they can hurt your score. Pay every bill on time. Keep your credit utilization under 30% of your limit. This isn't about chasing perfection. It's about progress. Improving your credit gives you options and lowers your stress. Imagine being able to walk into a bank and apply for a loan and feel confident instead of anxious. So when you get a chance, pull your credit score and look square in the face. Knowledge is power and power creates freedom.

Speaker 1:

Step six start or grow an emergency fund. Step six is about peace of mind. Your emergency fund. Life throws curveballs car repairs, medical bills, job loss. Without a cushion, emergencies turn into debt spirals. Here's the glow-up goal Save at least three to six months of essential expenses. If that number feels overwhelming, start smaller. Even $500 is powerful. It turns a crisis into an inconvenience. Here's how to begin Open a separate savings account just for emergencies.

Speaker 1:

Begin, open a separate savings account just for emergencies. Set up an automatic transfer, even if it's $20 a week. Treat this fund as untouchable unless it's a true emergency. An emergency fund isn't just about money. It's about confidence. It's knowing you can handle life without panic. So step six is open that account and make your first deposit.

Speaker 1:

Step seven open and contribute to retirement accounts. Step seven is for your future self. Midlife is the perfect time to prioritize retirement. Why? Because women over 40 still have 20 to 30 years to grow wealth. Here are your options. If you have a job with a 401k, contribute at least enough to get the employer match. That's free money. If you don't open an IRA or a Roth IRA, increase contributions by 1% to 2% each year. You'll barely notice the change, but your future self will thank you. Remember, investing isn't about timing the market, it's about time. In the market, consistency beats perfection every time. Your glow-up step if you don't have a retirement account, open one this week. If you do, increase your contribution Now. Step eight set up automatic savings and bill payments.

Speaker 1:

Step eight of your financial glow up is about taking stress out of the equation automation. Here's the truth. Discipline is great, but automation wins every time. When your bills, savings and retirement contributions are set up to run automatically, you protect yourself from forgetfulness, overspending and late fees. Here's how to glow up Schedule your bills for auto pay. Set automatic transfers to your savings and emergency fund. Align paydays with your transfers so the money moves before you're tempted to spend it.

Speaker 1:

Automation creates consistency and consistency creates freedom. Imagine logging into your accounts and knowing it's all handled. That's financial glow-up energy. So step eight set up one new automation. And finally, step nine audit your subscriptions and spending leaks. You've built an incredible foundation for your financial glow-up.

Speaker 1:

Now let's tighten it up with a spending audit. Go through your bank and credit card statements. Look at subscriptions, memberships and small expenses that sneak in streaming services, delivery apps, beauty boxes. Ask am I still using this? Does it align with my values? Cancel what doesn't serve you, redirect that money towards debt savings or the life you really want. So this series was never about perfection. It's about awareness, alignment and action. Over these past nine steps, you've learned to track your money budget by values tackle debt, build credit, save for emergencies, invest for retirement, automate your system and stop money leaks. So that's a financial glow up foundation that will carry you forward into financial freedom. Keep going, keep glowing and remember midlife is the perfect time to rebuild wealth on your own terms. This isn't the end. It's the starting line. Keep building, keep growing and keep growing, because midlife is your time to thrive financially, physically and personally.

Speaker 1:

Now we're diving into one of my favorite topics how fashion and style trends this season can support your glow-up journey. Because, remember, your wardrobe isn't just clothing, it's energy, it's confidence, it's how you show up in the world. Let's start with tailoring and structure. Gone are the days when pencil skirts felt stiff or uncomfortable. This season, it's all about stretchy, comfortable fabrics that give you that feminine, flattering silhouette. Think confidence meets comfort. Pair it with a tailored blazer or a coat with dramatic draping, or even one of those cozy scarf panels built right in, and suddenly you have taken running errands to effortlessly elevated. And I don't know about you, but when I put on a wide leg trouser in soft pinstripes I feel both polished and practical, ready to conquer the day.

Speaker 1:

Now let's add texture and layers. Autumn is the perfect season for this. Faux fur is everywhere, especially in those versatile brown and beige tones. Just imagine throwing on a soft faux fur coat over your jeans. It instantly adds luxury. Lightweight pattern knitwear adds luxury. Lightweight pattern knitwear. Asymmetric layering pieces, even a little fringe or tassel these all add movement and depth and that kind of dimension makes every simple outfit feel intentional and glow up ready. Then we've got feminine and romantic touches. This fall season, lace is making a statement in skirts and blouses and I love it because it adds that delicate, romantic energy. And for my boho spirited sisters, flowing maxi skirts, embroidered jackets and those nomadic inspired layers are so in this fall season, one trend I'm loving nighty style dresses Sheer, soft, flowy and, yes, they've made the leap in daytime wear Feminine, comfortable and a little bit daring.

Speaker 1:

Of course, we have to talk about color and patterns for this coming up fall season 2025. This season is rich and bold. Think chocolate, brown, turmeric, chartreuse, indigo, deep purples and pale blues. Pair them with checks and plaids and coats or trousers. Or add some leopard print for a pop of playful energy A statement coat in animal prints. That is pure confidence.

Speaker 1:

Moving on to skirts, dresses and accessories this fall season, midi skirts are going to be everywhere and they're the most versatile piece you can own. They're the most versatile piece you can own. Pair them with boots and you've got nailed autumn chic. Asymmetrical hems and bold patterns also give individuality and personality. On the footwear side, sneakers are stepping aside to let loafers, mary Janes, oxfords and sleek ankle boots have their moment. These little swabs instantly infuse polish into everyday outfits.

Speaker 1:

Now for outerwear and statement details. Bomber jackets, matte coats, varsity jackets with a modern edge they all add stylish warmth this coming season. They all add stylish warmth this coming season. Don't overlook crochet tops and hats for comfort and artistry, or even a vintage blouse layered under a draped wool coat. These are the kinds of details that make people stop and say wow, she looks amazing.

Speaker 1:

And finally, everyday luxury. This is a theme. I really want you to remember this upcoming fall. We're moving away from harsh minimalism and into softness. Think slouchy handbags, buttery fabrics, cozy knit scarves and warm brown or beige tones that last season after season. Everyday luxury means choosing pieces that feel good, elevate your energy and remind you that you are worth it every single day.

Speaker 1:

Here's a glow-up takeaway. Fashion is not about following every single trend. It's about asking how do these trends support the woman I'm becoming? Maybe for you it's adding soft faux fur accessories, maybe it's a new midi skirt, or maybe it's swapping sneakers for sleek loafers. Small shifts, big energy. So you're building your autumn wardrobe this coming season. Think structure, texture, romance, statement and everyday luxury. Let your style speak the glow up. You're living from the inside out.

Speaker 1:

Now let's pivot to our final segment, something deeper the habits of authentically confident women, because confidence isn't just about how we look. It's about how we live, how we carry ourselves and how we show up in this world. So let's dive into the top 20 habits of authentically confident women. As you listen, notice which ones already feel natural to you and which ones you might want to bring more intentionality into your own life. First, authentically confident women practice self-love. They remind themselves daily I am worthy. They choose relationships, routines and even wardrobes that align with their self-respect. They also embrace individuality. Speaker 1:

Authentically confident women are lifelong learners. They read, they explore new hobbies, they stretch themselves, not because they need fixing, but because they love evolving. They also maintain healthy boundaries. Boundaries are not walls, they are clarity. They protect your inner peace and make sure your needs are honored.

And confident women communicate. Another habit speaking up Even if their voice shakes. They express their opinions and feelings. They don't need everyone to agree, they just know their voice matters. And, yes, they're willing to take risks. Growth doesn't happen in the comfort zone.

Speaker 1:

Authentically confident women step forward anyway, trusting that even failure teaches them something. They practice gratitude, not in a fluffy, forced way, but in a way that shifts perspective. Gratitude says I already have so much and I'm open to even more. And they are assertive, not aggressive, not passive, but clear, direct and respectful about their needs. Here's the big one they own their successes. They don't brush off compliments or say, oh, it was nothing. They stand in their accomplishments, knowing it inspires others when they shine. Of course, self-care is essential. Confident women prioritize their physical health, their mental health and their emotional well-being. It's not selfish, it's foundational. They also curate supportive circles. Who you spend time with is who you become.

Speaker 1:

Confident women choose to be around uplifting, encouraging people. They stay true to their values. Their decisions line up with what matters most to them, even if it's not popular. And when life gets messy, they're resilient. They bounce back with grace, finding the lesson and moving forward. Another habit they avoid comparison. They don't waste time scrolling or wishing. They honor their own path. They also practice mindfulness. Staying present helps them manage stress, stay centered and enjoy the journey instead of rushing to the destination.

Speaker 1:

Here's one I love they embrace vulnerability. They're not afraid to admit mistakes, to show their authentic self or to say I don't know, but I'm learning. That is real strength. And authentically confident women support other women. They don't compete. They celebrate, encourage and mentor. They're also financially savvy.

Speaker 1:

Confidence includes being in control of your money, planning wisely and making choices that support your future self. They trust their intuition. They balance logic with gut instinct and they don't second guess themselves endlessly. And finally, they celebrate other successes Instead of jealousy, they feel genuine joy when other women's win, because they know there's room for everyone to shine.
