Here is your Monday Mindset Minute.
Speaker 1:Your attitude is your superpower. No matter what happened yesterday or what challenges you're facing today, you always have the power to choose your mindset. That's one of the greatest gifts of being human, and especially powerful in midlife, when we're rewriting the script on our own terms. Over the years, I've learned, both from personal experience and by watching others, that a positive attitude will take you further in life than almost anything else. It's not about ignoring reality or slapping on a fake smile. It's about recognizing that attitude is one of the few things in life we have total control over. Choosing your attitude is a daily decision. It doesn't mean you have to be bubbly or energetic all the time. It means being aware of how you're showing up and how your energy is impacting your day, your relationships and your goals. Here's the truth. Your success doesn't depend on how smart, talented or lucky you are. It depends on your attitude, the way you think, the way you respond, the way you carry yourself. That's what recreates momentum. So, today and every day, take full ownership of your attitude. Don't hand that power over to someone else. Don't let circumstances, other people or even yesterday's mood dictate how you show up now and today, because your attitude, that's your superpower. So next we'll address two weight loss tips. I swear and live by Tip number one drink your water.
Speaker 1:Drinking enough water is a foundational piece of the puzzle, especially in midlife. Why? Because water supports metabolism, appetite control, skin and organ health, joint lubrication and cognitive clarity. Research has shown that increasing water intake can boost your metabolism, suppress appetite and even increase fat burning a concept known as lipolysis. In a clinical study, overweight women who drank an average over 1.5 liters daily before meals lost weight, reduced body fat and felt less hungry.
Speaker 1:So how much should you aim for? A widely used guideline is to drink half your body weight in ounces. For example, 160 pounds. Aim for 80 ounces of water daily. Adjust the amount upward if you're active or live in warmer climates. In my personal routine, I carry a 40-ounce insulated water bottle with me and track it daily in a hydration app, making it easy to hit my goals throughout the day. Right now, I'm aiming for 120 ounces of water per day.
Speaker 1:Beyond weight loss, staying well hydrated benefits your skin elasticity, helps flush out toxins, supports kidney function, keeps joints supple and maintains mental sharpness All especially important during midlife. Here's the bottom line Drink consciously, carry your bottle, sip consistently and aim for half that body weight in ounces target per day. Make it a non-negotiable daily habit, because proper hydration isn't just a habit, it's a health strategy. So here's tip number two surround yourself with supportive people and a supportive environment. I'm telling you who and what you surround yourself with matters a lot.
Speaker 1:On my own 150-pound weight loss journey, I made a very conscious decision to curate my environment. That means muting people yes, even friends or family who brought negative or unsupportive energy. I tailored my social media feeds to be uplifting and inspiring, filled with people on similar journeys, experts in wellness and creators who radiate positivity. I also immerse myself in self-development books, audiobooks and podcasts that kept my mind strong and focused, because the truth is, you become what you are around In. Your environment is filled with junk food, toxic people or negative messages. Guess what? That becomes your normal. But when you intentionally surround yourself with motivation, encouragement and people who believe in healthy living, it makes your next healthy decision so much easier. This shift has helped me make the best choices for my mind and body, not just once in a while, but consistently, because when your world reflects your goals, your habits naturally rise to meet them. Remember this you are your environment, so make it a reflection of the woman you're becoming, not the one you're leaving behind.
Speaker 1:So here we are in today's wellness glow-up segment, where we focus on feeling good in our bodies and creating vibrant energy from the inside out. Today, we're diving into the one most underrated glow-up tools out there Stretching Yep. Not intense workouts or complicated routines, just intentional, restorative movement that your 40 plus body and mind will absolutely thank you for. Let's talk about what I like to call the wellness glow up, stretching movement. This isn't just about flexibility or touching your toes. This is about reclaiming ease, comfort and fluidity in your body, especially during midlife, when things naturally start to feel a little stiffer.
Speaker 1:Why is this so important after 40? Because as we age, our muscles and joints don't bounce back the way they used to. Hormonal shifts can cause joint pain, muscle tightness and even poor sleep. But here's the good news Regular stretching helps fight that off. Stretching improves circulation, reduces pain and tension, improves posture, supports balance and boosts your mood. And, yes, it even helps with anxiety and brain fog, which, let's be real, we don't have time for.
Speaker 1:So where should you focus when stretching in midlife? Let's talk with five glow-up zones Hips and pelvis these carry us literally. Stretching here improves mobility and ease in walking. Spine and lower back, supporting posture and reducing that I slept weird pain Shoulders and upper back If you sit at a desk or carry stress here, stretching opens you up and melts the tension away. Neck, releasing stiffness where stress often settles. Hamstrings and calves these help with walking, balance and just feeling light on your feet. And if you're wondering where to start, I've got you covered.
Speaker 1:Here are three amazing YouTube channels and routines made specifically for women over 40. They're simple, effective and totally doable, even in your pajamas. So you could search in YouTube 15-minute Full body mobility and stretch for women over 40. This video is great for a morning or post-walk routine. Helps with flexibility and joint mobility. Then search 15-minute essential stretching routine, perfect to wind down in the evening or add in your strength training or a long day sitting. And number three video seven daily stretches for women over 40. Just search that. These are short and sweet and help you start or end your day with intention and grace.
Speaker 1:Remember, glowing up in midlife doesn't require extreme workouts. Just moving your body with love and consistency is powerful. You don't need to be flexible, you just need to be willing. So here's your challenge Add just five minutes of stretching a day to your routine this week. Put on your favorite playlist, breathe deeply and make it a sacred moment just for you. Your body is your forever home. Treat it with care, stretch it with love and it will glow up right along with you.
Speaker 1:So now on to our financial glow up segment. Last week we talked about the first step to your financial glow up facing facts. That means getting honest about your income, expenses, debt and net worth. Scary, maybe empowering, absolutely so. Today let's talk about step two creating a values-based budget and why this is a game changer for midlife women.
Speaker 1:A values-based budget isn't about restriction or penny pinching. It's about alignment. It's about making sure your money is flowing in the direction of what truly matters to you, because by midlife, we've done the hustle, the survival, the people pleasing. Now it's time to live with intention. When your spending reflects your core values whether that's health, freedom, travel, family, creativity or security you feel more empowered, more in control and less likely to overspend out of stress or habit. You stop wasting money on things that don't matter and start using it to build the life that does so.
Speaker 1:Here's how to create a values-based budget in five simple steps. Step one clarify your values. Ask yourself what actually matters to me in this season of life. Maybe it's wellness, connection, growth, peace or purpose. Write down your top three to five values. Step two look at where your money is going now. Compare your current spending habits to your values. Are they aligned or are there things you're spending on that don't reflect what you care about most? Step three make adjustments. That is where the magic happens. Shift your budget so more of your money is going toward what fuels you and less toward what drains you what fuels you and less toward what drains you. That might mean canceling a few subscriptions, cutting back on impulse purchases or finally investing in that gym, coach or trip that supports your goals. Step four automate and track. Set up systems that support your values-based spending, like automatic transfers to a vacation fund or a grocery delivery to support your healthy eating. Use a budget app to keep track. And finally, step five revisit regularly.
Speaker 1:Your values can evolve, especially in midlife. Make a monthly money date with yourself to check in, celebrate wins and realign if needed. When your money matches your mission, everything starts to feel lighter and more intentional. This is the second step to your financial glow up, and I promise it's a powerful one. Until then, track your values, tweak your budget and keep glowing up my friend financially. Values tweak your budget and keep glowing up my friend financially. Next, today we're diving into a glow-up tip that helps you find your passion and purpose as a midlife woman, whether you're 40, 50, or beyond. I want you to know your purpose didn't expire with your last birthday. It's not hiding from you. It's just waiting for you to reconnect with yourself. It's not hiding from you. It's just waiting for you to reconnect with yourself.
Speaker 1:Do a life audit what excites you, drains you and fulfills you? All right, this is a powerful one. A life audit is a simple but eye-opening exercise. Think of it as cleaning out the closet of your soul. You're getting honest about what lights you up, what totally drains your energy and what brings you deep soul level fulfillment. Why is this important in midlife? Because chances are, you've spent decades showing up for everyone else your family, your job, your responsibilities. But now, now is the time to show up for you, and here's a step-by-step process to completing your life audit.
Speaker 1:Grab a notebook or journal, draw three columns and label them. Excites me, drains me, fulfills me. Reflect on your typical week. Think about your routines, your job, your relationships, your hobbies, even how you spend your free time. Write honestly what gives you energy, what leaves you depleted, what moments make you feel aligned, proud and peaceful. Circle your excites and fulfills list. That's your passion map. That's where your purpose is trying to speak to you. Start making small shifts. Can you do more of what excites and fulfills you? Can you reduce or delegate the draining stuff? This audit helps you take your life off autopilot and start living on purpose. Passion isn't something you discover in a lightning bolt moment. It's something you remember by listening to your inner truth. So here's a recap Do a life audit and get crystal clear on what fuels and fulfills you. You don't need a five-year plan to start, you just need one powerful decision to stop settling and start exploring. This is your season to bloom, to pivot, to rediscover what feels and what makes you feel alive. Midlife isn't the end. It's an invitation.
Speaker 1:Now welcome to the beauty glow up segment of the podcast. Today, I'm sharing two powerful skincare tips that can truly level up your glow in midlife, especially if you're noticing changes in your skin and wondering how to bring back that bounce, radiance and protection. Let's jump right into it. Glow up. Tip number one incorporate peptides to support collagen production. Here's the science-backed truth as we enter our 40s and 50s, our natural collagen production here's the science-backed truth. As we enter our 40s and 50s, our natural collagen production begins to slow down by as much as 1% per year, starting in our 20s, and since collagen is the protein that keeps our skin plump, firm and youthful, this decline is one of the main reasons we see sagging, fine lines and loss of elasticity. Enter peptides these are short chains of amino acids that act as messengers to your skin, encouraging it to ramp up collagen production. When you apply peptide-infused skincare, you're essentially giving your skin the signal to act younger and build resilience. Now there are a lot of peptide products out there that are wonderful, but one I absolutely love and personally use is the Nida Peptide Propolis Renewal Serum. It's a Korean skincare gem that combines peptides with propolis, a natural ingredient made by bees that's packed with antioxidants and known for soothing, repairing and deeply hydrating the skin. And, best part, it's super affordable at $13.99 on Amazon. I love the glow it gives me, especially in the morning, after applying it at night. Highly recommend adding this one into your evening routine Glow-up.
Speaker 1:Tip number two use sunscreen daily, spf 30 or higher, rain or shine. Now, this tip is a non-negotiable. If you do nothing else for your skin, wear sunscreen every single day, and I'm not just talking about beach days or sunny vacations. Uv rays still reach your skin even on cloudy days, in the car and through windows. Why is this so important in midlife? Because as we age, our skin becomes more vulnerable to sun damage, which can accelerate fine lines, pigmentation, age spots and even increase our risk for skin cancer. Plus, if you're investing in anti-aging products like peptides or retinoids and not using sunscreen, you're basically throwing money out the window. Sun exposure cancels out all those glow-up benefits. My current fave is the Innisfree Daily UV Defense SPF 36. It's another Korean skincare favorite lightweight, non-greasy, hydrating and wears beautifully under makeup. And it's only $18 on Amazon a total steal for how luxurious it feels on the skin. So remember peptides help rebuild and sunscreen protects what you're rebuilding. Combine these two and you're creating a powerful skincare duo that works with your skin, not against it.
Speaker 1:No matter your age, your midlife glow up starts with protecting and nourishing your skin. You're in because aging is beautiful, but caring for yourself makes it powerful. Because aging is beautiful but caring for yourself makes it powerful. So let's talk confidence. Today, I'm sharing three powerful confidence boosters every midlife woman should keep in her glow-up toolbox. Midlife is not a time to shrink back. It's a time to own your worth, honor your journey and walk into the second half of life with unshakable confidence. So let's dive into three things that can help you build that bold, radiant confidence from the inside out.
Speaker 1:Confidence booster number one forgive yourself for past mistakes. So many women in midlife are carrying the weight of past decisions, whether it's about relationships, careers, health or motherhood. And here's what I want you to hear you did the best you could with what you do at the time. Forgiveness isn't about excusing everything. It's about releasing the shame and the guilt that keep you stuck. When you forgive yourself, you take your power back. You stop letting your past define your future. Confidence grows when you realize you're not broken. You're evolving, you're wiser. Now you are allowed to show up in the next chapter without dragging your old story with you. Take a deep breath, place your hand on your heart. No-transcript Confidence booster number two visualize yourself succeeding.
Speaker 1:Visualization isn't just woo-woo, it's science-backed and powerful. Your brain responds to mental imagery almost the same way it does in real life experiences. So when you take a few minutes each day to see yourself winning, achieving your goals, speaking confidently, walking into that room with your head high, you start training your mind to believe it's possible. Here's how to do it Sit quietly for just two to five minutes, close your eyes, picture a version of yourself who has already achieved your goal. See her face, her posture, her energy. Imagine how she feels, how she speaks, how she moves that woman, she's already inside you. You're just activating her. Doing this regularly builds internal trust. You start showing up more like the woman you want to become, because in your mind you've already met her.
Speaker 1:And finally, confidence booster number three challenge negative self-talk with facts. Every midlife woman I have spoken to has an inner critic. And guess what? That critic is loud, dramatic and usually full of lies. It might say you're too old or you've always messed things up. But here's one thing Just because your mind says it doesn't mean it's true. So let's reframe. When a negative thought pops up, pause and ask is this true? Where's the evidence? What would I say to my best friend if she said this about herself? Then replace the lie with a fact. For example, negative self-talk. I'm never going to lose the weight. Reframe I've already lost 10 pounds and I'm learning more every day. I'm showing up for myself. This practice rewires your brain to focus on truth, not fear, and when you speak truth to yourself consistently, your confidence becomes rock solid. So there you have it. Forgive yourself. So there you have it. Forgive yourself, visualize success and challenge to the negative noise. These three boosters don't cost a dime, but they are priceless when it becomes a building, a confident midlife that truly glows from the inside out. You've got this, my friend. You're not behind, you're becoming and keep going.
Speaker 1:Hey, now we are at the life coaching segment with an exercise. Let's talk about a little phrase that changed my life. It doesn't get better than this Now, before your midlife jumps to jacks. Are you serious? This is as good as it gets. Yes and no. Let me explain. This is not about settling. This is about awakening. It's about choosing to live in this moment fully, deeply, consciously, because this moment is the only one you actually have. Everything else it's either a memory or imagination. The past is done, the future is fantasy, and while planning for it is just as important, it doesn't have to be better than now in order for you to be happy. Let me say that again for those who've been stuck in I'll be happy when cycle for too long.
Speaker 1:You don't have to wait until you lose 30 pounds, fall in love, get that dream job, clear that debt or move to a new city to feel joy. You are allowed to feel good right now, even as you work towards your glow up. So here's the truth Joy is available to you in every single moment, not later, now. The future won't bring more joy unless you learn to create it in the present. That glow up, that reinvention. It begins when you stop outsourcing your happiness to the scale, the paycheck, the Instagram likes or the relationship status. You don't have to wait until things are better. You can claim peace right now. You can laugh right now. You can feel beautiful. Right now you can turn on your favorite playlist, light a candle, move your body, drink a tall glass of water, put on that lip gloss and whisper.
Speaker 1:This moment is mine because it is Try this, the here and now practice. I want to offer you a little coaching ritual I use when I feel stuck in future fantasy or present discontent the. It doesn't get better than this reset. The. It doesn't get better than this reset. Pause, put your hand on your heart, take three slow breaths, feel your feet on the floor and say out loud this moment is enough. Nothing needs to change for me to feel peace right now. I have the full capacity for joy in this moment.
Speaker 1:Notice what's good. Literally, name five things that are beautiful, peaceful, cozy or pleasurable in this exact moment A breeze, a favorite hoodie, a quiet house, a cup of tea, your own breath. Choose a joy-anchoring thought. Here are a few I love. I am safe. Right now. I get to enjoy this day. There is beauty here. Even now I can glow.
Speaker 1:Take one conscious action Walk, dance, hydrate journal, call a friend, stretch, organize one drawer, not because it will fix your life, because it grounds you back into the now. Here's your takeaway Stop waiting to feel good, start now. You don't need to change everything before you enjoy something. Put down the burden of someday. Pick up the gift of this day. You are not behind. You are right on time. And this moment, yes, this very one, is your greatest teacher, your deepest peace and your wildest portal to joy, because, honestly, it doesn't get better than this.
Speaker 1:So, finally, to end today's episode, this is this week's midlife belief, one of my absolute favorites. If you're walking through a glow-up journey in your 40s, 50s or beyond, I want you to write this one down, stick it on your mirror, speak it to yourself daily. I don't give up on myself. I recommit as many times as needed. Now, take a deep breath and let that sink in. This belief is powerful because it gives us permission to be human, to stumble, to pause, to get off track and still keep going. It's a belief rooted in grace and grit and when you adopt it fully, your relationship with yourself changes. You become someone who is loyal to you, not just when things are easy, but especially when they're not.
Speaker 1:Because, let's be real, midlife isn't a highlight reel. It's a wild, beautiful, messy season filled with change body change, relationship shifts, career pivots, aging parents, adult kids, aging parents, adult kids all of it. It's so easy to slip into perfectionism or all or nothing, thinking I missed a workout. What's the point? I overate Might as well start over Monday. I was doing so well, but now I've lost my momentum.
Speaker 1:But here's the mindset shift. It's not about never falling off. It's about how quickly and lovingly you return. You don't give up, you recommit. You put your hand on your heart and say, okay, that didn't go as planned, but I'm still worthy, I still want this. I'm not starting over, I'm picking back up, let's go. And you can do this over and over and over again, because growth isn't linear, it's layered. Recommitting isn't failure, it's courage, it's resilience, it's that glow-up mindset in action. Here's how to build that belief into your life.
Speaker 1:Catch the I messed up spiral. Notice when you're about to write yourself off, pause and breathe. Ask yourself what would the best version of me do next, not perfectly, but intentionally. Speak a new truth, try. This is part of the process. I don't have to give up. I can start again right now.
Speaker 1:Then take one micro action a glass of water, a walk, logging your meals. A glass of water, a walk, logging your meals, journaling for five minutes. That one step is your recommitment. The more you practice this, the more your self-trust grows. You stop being afraid of messing up because you know you always come back to yourself and that my friend is the kind of woman who glows up in midlife, not because she's perfect, but because she's committed to herself no matter what. So repeat after me I don't give up on myself. I recommit as many times as needed. Say it, live it, believe it. Your glow up isn't on a timer, it's on your own terms.
Speaker 1:And that's a wrap on episode nine, the Midlife Glow Report. Thank you so much for spending this time with me. Whether you're sipping tea, walking your pup or folding laundry while you're listening, I'm honored to be part of your glow-up journey. You just have to stay committed. Keep showing up, keep choosing joy, keep coming back home to yourself. You're not behind my friend, you're becoming. Until next time, stay bold, stay curious and never stop glowing. Love you always, jax.
